A Church for all in the heart of the city Part of the worldwide Methodist Church

Word for All June

Word for all Sunday June 13th 2010

It is really great to come before everyone this morning and share some of what happens in SPLAT (Spirit, Life, Art and Teaching) with the young people on Sunday mornings.

We have been studying Ephesians 6 “The Whole Armor (or Armour, if you are reading a British bible) of God” We usually start with a memory verse so this morning I feel it appropriate to do this. Let’s learn Ephesians 6 verse 13 together as a church – note this is only the first part of verse 13 due to time constraints! “THEREFORE TAKE UP THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD”

I will now ask two members of our young people’s group SPLAT to come and stand before you. Every week in SPLAT we do a messy art project. The last few weeks we have been building suits of armor to help us concentrate on the teaching from Ephesians 6. While Cara from Methsoc ably helps the young people put on their armor I will read to you the whole of Ephesians 6.

(A few moments later).......

Ok, I will now shut my bible. What we are going to do is label the parts of the armor with what they mean and represent: 1. Breastplate = Righteousness. 2. Helmet = Salvation 3.Shoes = Gospel 4.Belt = Truth 5.Shield = Faith 6.Sword = the Spirit which is the word of God, also known to us as the Bible!

It’s always good to learn and understand what the scriptures mean – this morning is no exception.

I would like to leave you with 2 questions that I won’t answer for you as I believe you need to think the answers for yourselves and seek them with your heart.

1.     If you didn’t put on the whole armor of God every day, as a Christian do you think this might affect your walk with God?

2.     As a Christian how might it change your life if you put on the armor of God every day?

Amen – God be with us.
