WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH CAMBRIDGE : MONTHLY PRAYER CYCLE 2011
DAY 1
For the Cambridge Methodist Circuit, its Superintendent Minister, Rev Dr Mike Wilson, and Jennie Harris, its Administrator based at Wesley. For all developments in the Circuit in response to new and changing patterns of housing and employment, particularly the proposed Northstowe and other developments around Cambridge.
DAY 2
For Wesley Methodist Church and its minister, Rev Dr Tim Macquiban and his wife, Angela. For the leadership to the Church and service to the Community he offers. For the Centre Administrator, Rachel Clarke, and for Phil and Christopher, and the care they give to our plant at Wesley and their links with the church and community 24/7. For our supernumerary ministers, Alan Ashton, Brian Beck, Peter Graves, Joy Levine, John Snaith and the continuing ministry they offer.
DAY 3
For other churches in the circuit and for Hilary Cheng, Robert Dolman, Chris White as circuit ministers. For Iain Dover, Youth Worker and his contacts with young people around the circuit. For the circuit local preachers and their meetings and for the Growth and Nurture Committee of the Circuit. and its secretary, Muriel Brewster.
DAY 4
For the East Anglia Methodist District of which we are a part and for its Chairman, Rev Graham Thompson, and all district officers and committees. For the work the District does in Rural Affairs and in Environmental issues. For its links with the World Church and particularly with Latvia.
DAY 5
For the work of the Connexional Team and the General Secretary, Rev Dr Martyn Atkins, in helping to set the agenda for the development of Methodism in the 21st century. For all ministers, preachers and congregations in the District; for the work of the District Development Officer, Jack Lawson, in formulating new strategies for ministry and mission; for the work of Ann Howlett-Foster.
DAY 6
For other Christian churches and their leaders, especially for the Church of England and the Diocese of Ely celebrating its 900th anniversary in 2009. For inter-faith dialogue and peoples of other faiths living in Cambridge and the work of the Mill Road networking events in building up community cohesion in this part of the city.
DAY 7
For other churches in the city, especially our close neighbours, Christ Church, Eden and Zion Baptist Churches, the Unitarians and the Quakers, their leaders and members. For the Friends of All Saints and for the Dean and Chaplain of Jesus College on Jesus Lane and the Christian communities and work there.
DAY 8
For the Church Council of Wesley, Paul Ashley its Secretary, and all its members acting as managing trustees of our property and finances. For the Vision and Strategy document agreed by the Church and its implementation, particularly the harnessing of the gifts of all members and attenders at the Church.
DAY 9
For the Church stewards of Wesley and the leadership they offer, particularly for Angus Campbell and Valu Bullen, Senior Church Stewards. For their oversight of the weekly worship, ministry and mission of the Church. For the Human Resources Group, especially at this time of recruiting a Community Outreach Worker.
DAY 10
For the Property and Finance Committee of Wesley, and the work of our Church Treasurer, David Taylor, and Property Steward, Peter Ashman. For those who count the collection each week. For responsible and regular giving by members of our congregation. For all the maintenance of the premises and their letting to other groups who visit and use our rooms and building.
DAY 11
For the Church Life Forum, General Church Meeting and the congregational life of the church. For the life of the city and all those who work in public and retail sectors, in business and commerce, particularly in the neighbouring Grafton Centre. For the Chaplaincy to People at Work and its team leader, Canon Chris Savage, and for the plans to have a City Centre Chaplain.
DAY 12
For our International Ministry working group and its concern for the World Church and International Issues; for the welcome we give and the awareness we promote. For our Fair Trade stalls and the promotion of environmental issues. For those who work in Language Schools in the city and all our overseas students who visit.
DAY 13
For all house groups, fellowship groups and for the Wednesday Bible Class, their leaders and enablers. For theological education in Cambridge this year celebrating its 800th anniversary. For the Cambridge Theological Federation, Wesley House and Westcott House, their students and staff and all engaged in theological education and training.
DAY 14
For our communion stewards and our regular weekly communion services at the heart of worship. For the monthly Holy Communion service held at Epworth Court and amongst those who are unable to attend worship. For all those whose mobility is restricted and for those who visit and care for them.
DAY 15
For Fireside, its Secretary, Treasurer, and members; for the fellowship and learning shared. For all those involved in Christian Adult Education and for the work of U3A. For all who teach and learn in the Arts and Social Sciences within the Universities.
DAY 16
For Science meets Faith and the dialogue between religion and the world of science. For the work of the Faraday Institute and all Christians who work and teach in scientific and medical research and development in the Science Park and elsewhere within the Universities. For the Chaplaincy team at Addenbrookes Hospital and all who work there or are cared for there.
DAY 17
For the Friday Lunch Centre, their leaders, helpers and members. For its Chiropody service. For all work on caring for and serving other needs of the elderly and frail and those with impairments within our communities.
DAY 18
For Saturday Rendezvous, its leader Mary Rycroft and all her helpers. For the friendships and activities shared there. For all work with children and young people, especially the Dance School and Brownies and other uniformed organizations. For the work of Cambridge Street Pastors, witnessing to and serving the night time economy.
DAY 19
For the Wesley Walkers and all who give thanks to God for the wonders of creation. For the commons and open spaces around us and the work of the Jesus Green and Midsummer Common Associations and BRUNK. For all who work in health and wellbeing, especially the NHS Blood Service and all staff and donors who visit us.
DAY 20
For our Organist and Choirmaster Geoff Batty, giving thanks for the gift of music in worship. For the Choir and all instrumentalists who contribute to worship. For all who teach in music and drama in the Universities and for the performances given here and elsewhere.
DAY 21
For all bible readers and intercessors who help us in our worship to focus on the Word of God and the prayers of the People. For the work of the Bible Society, Torch Trust and all charities supported by the Church in its outreach. For the work of Action for Children and MHA, amongst the young and old in our communities. and Christian Aid.
DAY 22
For Methsoc, bringing together Methodist students in the Universities in worship, prayer and fellowship here and in the colleges.For its President and Committee. For all chaplaincy work in the Colleges and at Anglia Ruskin University by Rev Nigel Cooper and associate chaplains, including Tim Macquiban.
DAY 23
For all flower donors, arrangers and distributors; for the gift of flowers and the beauty of God in nature which they remind us of. For pastoral care through our gifts and visits to members who are sick and house-bound.
DAY 24
For the helpers in Young Church and Creche and the care and nurture of children from the time of their baptism. For Karen Morton the Cradle Roll Secretary and all who keep contact with families who bring children for baptism. For work with children and young people in schools and colleges in this city. For the Headmasters and staff at The Leys and St. Faith’s Schools and their chaplain, Rev Clifford Meharry.
DAY 25
For all door/book stewards and the sound assistants who help those who come to hear and receive the Word of God. For our Church Library and Resource Room and our Librarian Janet Davis and all who use these resources.
DAY 26
For all who give a welcome to visitors to the Church. For all those involved in the tourist sector in Cambridge and in the care of heritage buildings and collections, especially the Christian Heritage Centre at the Round Church.
DAY 27
For all who are on the Coffee Rota and Catering Teams of our Church. For those who provide meals as a form of hospitality and outreach to visitors. For all who work in hotels, restaurants, cafes and college refectories and halls in the city.
DAY 28
For the Pastoral Committee, its Secretary Stephen Falkner, and for all members of the Church. For the development of the pastoral system to reach the needs of all and offer pastoral care to all who are connected with us and for further training offered by Joy Levine. For those recently bereaved in our Church and for the work of CRUSE.
DAY 29
For all Area Visitors and their Co-ordinator, Ken Drake. For the Wesley Directory and our Church website as effective tools for communication and contact with each other and with others in the community.
DAY 30
For the Wesley Parish Quarterly and its Editorial team. For those who write and design and those who read that it may tell the good news of what is happening at Wesley. For all who work in the media and communications.
DAY 31
For the future, particularly in the planning for the Centenary of the Church in 2013, that Wesley may be a place of worship and a powerhouse for ministry and mission at the heart of the City, to the glory of God in faithful discipleship of Christ and in the power of the Spirit.
