Outreach Worker Word for All
Talk for all – Easter Sunday 2010
THE VERY FLUFFY EASTER STORY
ONCE UPON A TIME FLUFFY RABBIT MET HIS BEST FRIEND NORA BADGER AS HE WAS WALKING ONE DAY.
HELLO NORA, SAID FLUFFY, HELLO FLUFFY SAID NORA.
I’M REALLY EXCITED SAID NORA, THIS SUNDAY IT’S EASTER AND THE EASTER BUNNY WILL BE BRINGING US LOTS OF YUMMY CHOCOLATE EGGS TO EAT.
OH YES, SAID FLUFFY, I’M DEAD EXCITED TOO, MMM,MMM I CAN ALREADY TASTE THOSE EGGS!!
ACTUALLY, SAID NORA, ER TALKING OF DEAD I HAVE HEARD A STORY GOING AROUND ABOUT A MAN CALLED JESUS WHO DIED AND THEN CAME BACK TO LIFE AGAIN!
WHAT!!!??? EXCLAIMED FLUFFY
WELL THAT’S THE WORD THAT’S GOING AROUND, SAID NORA, IF IT’S TRUE DOES THAT MEAN EASTER IS NOT ABOUT THE EASTER BUNNY AND CHOCOLATE AND DR.WHO ON THE T.V AND A LONG WEEKEND OF AND...
NORA.NORA, NORA SAID FLUFFY, CALM DOWN DEAR IT’S ONLY A FAIRY STORY, LETS BE HONEST HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU KNOW WHO HAVE COME BACK TO LIFE HAVING DIED, SAID FLUFFY – IT’S ALL HYPE TO MAKE US FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE SO WE CAN’T ENJOY OUR EASTER HOLIDAY...COME ON NOW LETS GO AND SEE BARNEY FOX, HE’S HAVING A PARTY WITH BALLOONS AND CAKE, IT WILL TAKE YOUR MIND OFF SUCH SILLY STORIES.
PHEW! , SAID NORA FOR A MINUITE THERE I THOUGHT WE COULD BE IN TROUBLE – I MEAN EASTER WITHOUT CHOCOLATE, NOW THAT WOULD BE A CRIME AGAINST GOD HIMSELF!
AND WITH THAT THE TWO FRIENDS WENT HAND IN HAND TO BARNEY FOXE’S PARTY.
THE END?
Don’t you find it amazing how the world shy’s away from the true meaning of Easter? What has the story about the fluffy bunny got to do with Easter for Church and Christianity – absolutely nothing! I love chocolate eggs and I have nothing against fluffy bunnies or any other cute animal. However Easter is about Christ, how he was betrayed, died and rose again from the dead. Easter is about dying for everyone here today in Church not to mention the whole of mankind.
Here with me today I have two Easter Eggs. What I am going to do is smash them up, just as Christ’s body was broken for us, and to remind us of what the real Easter is about I am sending the broken eggs around the church on trays for you to eat and as we eat these eggs let it remind us why we are here this Easter Sunday, not for fluffy bunny’s, bank holidays and chocolate but to remember that Christ died for the world’s sins and in His resurrection has offered us life eternal.
